How to Choose an SEO Specialist in Mangalore
What good SEO work looks like, the questions worth asking before you hire, and the promises that should make you walk away.
If you run a business in Mangalore, you have probably been offered "first page on Google" more than once. Some of those offers come from skilled people. Many do not. The difficulty is that bad SEO and good SEO look the same for the first few months: invoices go out, reports arrive, and it is hard to tell whether anything useful happened.
This guide explains what proper SEO work involves, what to ask before you hire someone, and how to judge progress, whether you choose a local specialist, an agency or a freelancer working remotely.
Start with what you want SEO to do
SEO is a way to get more of the right people to your website from search. Before talking to anyone, write down what "right people" means for you. A restaurant in Hampankatta, a hospital in Kankanady and an exporter in Baikampady need very different searches.
Be specific about the outcome: phone calls, WhatsApp enquiries, store visits, online orders or quote requests. A good specialist will ask about this in the first conversation. If someone talks only about rankings and traffic, that is a warning sign.
What good SEO work actually includes
Whoever you hire, the work should cover these areas, in roughly this order:
- Technical health: can search engines crawl and index your pages, is the site fast on mobile, are there broken links or duplicate pages?
- Keyword and intent research: which searches your customers use, grouped so each page has one clear job.
- On-page work: titles, headings and content that answer those searches better than the competing pages.
- Local SEO: an accurate Google Business Profile and consistent business details, if you serve customers in Mangalore.
- Content and authority: useful pages and articles that earn links and mentions over time.
- Measurement: Google Search Console and analytics set up so you can see impressions, clicks and enquiries.
Questions to ask before you hire
Clear, specific answers matter more than polished presentations. You should come away understanding the plan, not just feeling reassured.
- What would you fix first on my website, and why?
- Which keywords or topics would you target, and how do they connect to enquiries?
- Who will actually do the work, and how much of it?
- What will I receive each month, and how will you report results?
- Can you show a case study with numbers, and explain what you did to get them?
- What happens to the work, content and accounts if we stop working together?
Promises that should make you walk away
- Guaranteed number-one rankings. Nobody controls Google, so a guarantee means they are either guessing or planning shortcuts.
- Hundreds of backlinks for a fixed low price. Bought links in bulk are usually low quality and can hurt your site.
- Dozens of near-identical pages for every area of the city. These doorway pages break Google guidelines.
- Secret methods they cannot explain. Good SEO is mostly careful, explainable work.
Local specialist, agency or freelancer?
A local specialist understands the Mangalore market and can meet you in person, which helps with local SEO and Google Business Profile work. An agency offers more hands but often more layers between you and the person doing the work. A freelancer, local or remote, usually means direct access to a senior person at a lower overhead.
Location matters less than you might think: most SEO work happens remotely. What matters is experience with businesses like yours and clear communication.

How to judge progress in the first six months
In the first month you should see an audit and a plan. In months two and three, technical fixes and on-page changes should be live, and Search Console impressions for your target topics should start to rise. From months three to six, clicks and enquiries from organic search should follow.
If after six months you cannot point to any improvement in impressions, clicks or enquiries, and nobody can explain why, it is time to ask hard questions.
